Changes in Washington Contractor Requirements

Plumber Insurance in Washington

This is an important change pertaining to plumbers that they should be aware of:

The Washington legislature have created a new licensing category that specifically affects plumbing contractors. Starting July 1, plumbing contractors will now be required to have a plumbing license to do plumbing work. The new plumbing license is a big change for current general construction and specialty plumbing contractors. They will no longer meet state requirements to perform plumbing work under their current contractor registration.

Among other licensing requirements, plumbing contractors will be required to carry both a:

  • Washington Continuous Contractor Surety Bond in the amount of $6,000
  • General Liability Insurance policy covering up to:
  • $50,000 for injury or property damages, $100,000 for injury or death to one person, and $200,000 for injury or death to more than one person.

Or

  • $250,000 combined per occurrence
